Trading volume for exchange-traded products Wednesday decreased 14% from the previous day’s session to roughly 1.2 billion, according to NYSE Euronext data.
The five most active ETFs across all major U.S. exchanges were (in millions of shares):
SPDR S&P 500 (SPY): 179.4 (down from previous 207.9)
PowerShares QQQ (QQQQ): 81.6 (down from previous 104.8)
Select Sector Financials SPDR (XLF): 66.7 (down from previous 81.6)
iShares MSCI Emerging Markets ETF (EEM): 58.3 (not in previous day’s top five)
iShares MSCI Russell 2000 Index (IWM): 53.6 (down from previous 65.1)
Exchange-traded products include ETFs, exchange-traded notes as well as related derivatives and certificates.
